Slow Down

By | May 9, 2012

Weeks go fast, days even faster, life is always on the move so how do we slow it down a bit? I’m not too sure; breathe, workout, yoga, music? I’m just trying to get a handle on it. Days are so busy they turn into weeks and before I stop…. months have gone by. Sorry to bore but happy to intrigue.  Either way, I’m just writing what’s on my mind and hoping to invoke thought so maybe someone has some of their own ideas for me. Anyway…….

Have you checked out my song “Slow Down”?  If not, you can go to my facebook or reverbnation page.  Here are the lyrics:

Light a cigarette, no ones coming around

acting like your’re better than them

soon you’ll be

Down! Slow Down!

Your whole life riding free

Down! Slow Down!

Do you see what you’ve come to be?

Living like you do no wrong

Feeling fine all the time

There will be time when your alone

no place to call home

Down! Slow Down!

Your whole life riding free

Down! Slow Down!

Do you see what you’ve come to be?

Until next time…

Rolling Along into Spring

By | April 18, 2012

So hope everyone enjoyed the going of winter with barely any snow in the North East. It certainly felt a little strange but hey, less shoveling, slosh, being cold and all that good stuff. Nonetheless, a bit strange.

Anyway, it is Spring and I have lots to think about. I am setting up to record a new track for you to hear which I am stoked about. It really invites you into the way I feel much of the time in this life we live in… I’ll wait for you to hear it to come up with your own thoughts. Also, I am setting up some new show dates to go into the summer so stay tuned.

My album Still Breathing and a show I recently performed received some fantastic reviews. Click this link to read: http://www.longislandexchange.com/press/2012/03/07/merricks-own-jared-elliot-releases-new-album/ and http://theenthusiastblog.com/2012/03/06/merricks-own-jared-elliot-releases-new-album-rocks-the-vibe-lounge/

Earlier this month I recorded guitar and backing vocals for a song “Blacklight Lullaby” in my studio REDHOLE Recording with the band Exotik Robotz for an upcoming film. I’ll keep you posted for how that plays out. In addition, I have been writing and rehearsing with the band Terra Stigma for an upcoming release and shows throughout the summer.

Stay tuned by reading my blogs and emails and visiting my websites as I start heating up for the summer:)

Much Love as always,

JE

Opening for Richie Kotzen

By | March 28, 2012

I am really excited about an upcoming show on April 17th.  I will be performing at Ollies Point in Amityville, NY and will be opening up for one of my influences Richie Kotzen.  I have been a fan of his since I’m a teenager so this is going to be an awesome show. Richie is an incredible guitarist and vocalist.  He has many solo records and has also played guitar for Mr. Big and Poison for a short while.  It is Richie’s solo stuff that I really dig. Make sure to come out to this show as you will get to see me rock the joint as well as Richie.  I’ll have David Ryan on drums and Larry Love on bass for my band that evening. I will be performing songs from my album “Still Breathing” which was released this past December as well as a couple of brand new songs. You can buy your advanced discounted tickets from my website http://www.jaredelliot.com/merch.html. Look forward to seeing you there….and remember to wear your Still Breathing t’s :)

Much Love,

JE

Keeping Busy

By | February 22, 2012

It’s been a bit since I had some time to write… but boyyyyyy have I been busy! Aside from taking care of my four year old which has been so awesome seeing him develop through his first four years of life I have been busy releasing my album “Still Breathing” which hit the public in December. My CD release party was really cool as I had a terrific turnout. The Vibe Lounge in Rockville Center, NY was rocking as my band played a 45 minute set of all new songs. And for those who were there, they got a chance to hear one new song performed that is not on the album as well as a last minute encore song that had the joint a rocking! Thank you all who came out that evening. I also want to thank Rocco Mirro and Vincent Illuzzi for opening up the evening and all the folks such as Nerissa Ignacio, Dan Parillis, Shaun Littman and my band mates David Ryan and Larry Love for all their effort in making it a killer evening! You can check out some photos of the event via https://www.facebook.com/JaredElliotMusic and http://www.jaredelliot.com/main.html.

On February 19th I was the featured musical artist on Sketch Block Podcast episode 15. You can check it out at http://sketchblockpodcast.wordpress.com/episodes/ as songs “Pop Culture”, “Things We Do” and “Still Breathing” were featured.

In addition to “Still Breathing” news I have joined the hard rock band Terra Stigma so stay tuned for some exciting news coming soon and I am working with the synth pop band Exotik Robotz.

I think that’s all for right now but stay tuned for more upcoming news and I always love your comments and feedback so don’t be shy :)

Much Love,

JE

Things We Do

By | January 4, 2012

Hey all,

“Things We Do” is the second song on my new album “Still Breathing”. There  is a theme running through the entire album so when you listen to it try and listen straight through from beginning to end.  Then let me know your thoughts on what you take from it.  One person may have a different interpretation than another which is cool because as individuals, we take in things a little different and that is what I believe makes us all unique. Here are the lyrics:

The secret is out and it’s all about you

you wish it weren’t true

now it’s out and theres no denying

what it is you do

what faith do you believe in? now that you have suckered everyone

the truth is out and it’s all over you

Why do we do the things, that we do

is it easier than selling the truth?

why do we do the things, that we do

is it easier then wanting to be true

The time is now and it’s getting late out

so don’t forget us all

we trusted you and you betrayed us

so who should take the fall?

what faith do you believe in? now that you have suckered everyone

the truth is out and it’s all over you

Why do we do the things, that we do

is it easier than selling the truth?

why do we do the things, that we do

is it easier then wanting to be true?

Much love,

JE

Time Flies

By | October 26, 2011

For many years I played in a hard rock band called SOAL which totally kicked ass.  The music totally rocked and we played a killer live show  (If anyone is interested in hearing the music let me know). When the band ended a few years back our lead vocalist went back to his homeland Israel.  He was in NY for the first time since he left in 2006.  We saw each other and I tell you it is strange, we pretty much look the same and on one hand it feels like he never left but on the other hand it’s seems like a lifetime ago.  Actual time = 5 years. It felt oddly the same except we are in different environments. This is a guy I worked with and saw almost everyday. Time flies.

We were reminiscing about past experiences and there were many but for some reason we got a huge laugh speaking of a show we played in Jersey.  We were about to go on and I headed to the restroom to go number one and I open the bathroom door to find our bassist hunched over sitting on the bowl. It was a nasty scene.  The bathroom layout was you walk in and see a sink and a urinal and to the right was a toilet without a stall door.  Downright disgusting as many of them were.  So there he is going number two right there and I asked him if he was all right?  He replies ” I have a problem, no toilet paper”.  Now we are about to go on so I grab him some damp bar napkins as that’s all I can get for him to take care of his business.  I said you may have to use your shirt….Anyway I am not sure how long he was sitting there but seeing his face and all else of this dude sitting on the toilet was a really funny scene.  Sweat beading off his face and his pants around his ankles contemplating on what to do.  I’ll tell ya…check for toilet paper first before sitting your ass down on that germ infested bowl.  This guy was our bassist for a short while but it almost became his thing before shows.  Anyway it was good to get in some laughs with an old friend.  Time flies.

Exotik Robotz Gig

By | October 19, 2011

This past Monday night I played my first gig with the band Exotik Robotz — a synth pop rock band. We played a mix of originals and cover songs at Sullivan Hall in NYC.

There were two opening bands prior to us taking the stage. As we we got on stage, the place got packed with people and the smoke machines were smokin! We were supposed to play for about an hour, broken into two 25 minute sets with a small 3-4 minute break in between. We were rocking out and most of the crowd seemed to really enjoy us. Everything was running smooth except for 1 pre-show mishap — our drummer did not have any cymbals. He unfortunately had to play without any (which was very interesting), but we were able to get through without any problems.

For the last [original] song “Tonight the Stars” (which had a samba/flamenco feel) of the first set we invited two other musicians onstage. When that song ended Nick (one of the 2 lead singers) shouted “we will be back in a few minutes”. To our surprise and dismay though, we hear at that time (over the PA) that there is no time for anymore songs. The crowd booed and insisted we play more. To make a long story short the venue messed up. Apparently the individuals that work there do not communicate well with one another. (The sound tech apologized to us later and confirmed the lack of communication.) We asked to finish up with one last song and that’s where some dude was going off in the corner saying “there another act coming on and we gotta let them perform” followed with some colorful added expletives. This was news to us??  As we looked around there were a lot of people apparently hear for the next act who was a rapper of some sort. Some of the crowd did get a little rowdy. Thankfully we were allowed to play one last song to the delight of many.

After I get off stage my girlfriend looked mad as hell telling me that some large beastly women who was dressed like a Christmas tree was a rude biatch to her.  This “christmas tree” was pretty much wanting to take the bar table that she had been sitting at before anyone was even in the place, and didn’t even have the courtesy to wait until the band was finished. She insisted that she needed the table to film the next act, and standing right in front of her blocking her view, etc. RUDE people!!! Can’t we all just get along?? Apparently not. There is always some rude ass ruining a good time for others. So that was the third mishap on what was actually a very cool first gig with the band.

The night ended on a good note with an after party at this jamaican restaurant just a few blocks away from the venue. Good eats.

Be sure to check out some photos of the show on the Jared Elliot website and facebook page. Now on to the next event!

Much Love, JE

POP CULTURE

By | September 21, 2011

Well, “POP Culture” is a song on my upcoming album (out November 7). It’s probably the the song on the album where you say “that was a little different”. It is the most pop of all the songs, and even though the message is somewhat different then the other songs individually, it fits perfectly in the mix of the album as a whole.

This song came to me while I was sitting at a cafe where it hit me that almost everyone there was fiddling with their cell phones or doing something other than paying attention to what their company was saying.  It seemed not to matter because “their company” (or other person at the table) was not only talking, but also fiddling with their blackberry, iPhone, etc. Now, I think technology is great in many ways but can we maybe put it down for 30 or 60 minutes to engage in some real conversation?? People sometimes seem to multitask so much that they are really never fully invested into one particular thing at a given moment.  I have certainly been guilty of this. It’s like you are a zombie walking around as if no one else matters or exists — one minute on one thing and then off to the next!

Anyway, after people watching for a bit I headed to the restroom, and as I was washing my hands (yes some people still do this), I hear “SHIT!!! I just dropped my cell phone!” PLOP! The guy came out of the stall wiping off the toilet stuff from his phone with paper while still trying to text and WALKED STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BATHROOM (apparently he doesn’t wash his hands)!

And there, in part, is how I came up  with the song. The song actually has a lot more to do with pop culture as a whole, but this is story is what got it started. Now how bout reality TV? Ah, we can go nuts for hours…

Check out the song and let me know your thoughts.

Still Breathing

By | September 15, 2011

“Falling from a place I can’t hold onto”  is a lyrical line in the song Still Breathing. A collection of experiences that lead me to write these lyrics and develop it into a song. Being so close to something you really want and/or worked so hard for that you can grab hold of it and not want to let that feeling go and suddenly…….the rug gets pulled from under you and you feel as if the floor you are standing on fades away and your falling from where you want to be. Then you collect yourself and move towards what you want again “fighting the fear of mind that clouds the way but I’m still breathing, another day still breathing”.  This has happened many times in my existence where you feel so high and it comes crashing down only to work hard and strive to feel it again. You want to feel those feelings again and again that you have to work your ass off and believe to have a shot to get there “I’m done, wasting time; I’ve become further and further; as I’m alive I will fight to survive” words that I continue to live by….what’s the alternative, give up!  NO WAY IN HELL!

My new debut solo album entitled “Still Breathing” will drop on November 7.  Over the next few weeks I will write about the album as a whole as well as individual songs and the concepts behind them.  I will also write about experiences in my life whether they were awesome, horrible, insane (which many are), beautiful, horrifying, motivating, well you get the point.  So stay tuned as this blogging ride begins cause it’s gonna be sick!
